This past week the Royals girls soccer team started their season. Their first game was against Chaska which resulted in a 2-0 Royals victory. In the second game of the season the Royals played Champlin Park and dominated them 5-1. Last night, the Royals played their third game against Cretin Derham-Hall and after a well fought battle they won 2-1.

The Royals hope to bring the same physicality that they have brought to the past three games, to the rest of the season.

“This year especially, we’ve got a lot of good athletic players so we’ll just need to figure out how to play as a team and work together,” said Abigail Mandler, junior. “I’m looking forward to seeing how our team can come together for this season.”

The team will be returning 11 seniors and will look to use all of their veteran skills to beat the top schools this year.

The captains this year are: Ashley Akin, Ellen Frank, Isabelle Olson and Jordyn Petty, seniors.

“I’m most excited to play the lake conference teams. I think our team has developed more chemistry and added some new players and that combination will enable us to beat them,” Akin said. “We’ve been doing a really good job recently of getting up offensively as a team. In the past we’ve struggled a lot with that, but already we’ve been able to score goals off of combination plays instead individual efforts.”
