39 HHS DECA members advance to the state competition
Feb 8, 2022
DECA is an annual business competition in high schools around the world. DECA prepares students for a future career in business. There are competitive events on all different aspects of business such as entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
DECA helps students learn important skills such as knowledge of business practices and information, speaking in front of others, and acting professionally.
Hopkins DECA Team had the district competition on January 30th. The top 7 teams from each event move forward onto the state competition. At the award ceremony, the teams that are going to state were announced.
Students will stay in the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Minneapolis, where the state competition is held. The state competition takes place over three days with the first two days (March 6-7) being the ‘preliminary’ competition.
This part of the competition narrows the field down to the top 12-15 competitors for each event and the right to compete at ‘finals’ on the third day (March 8) of the competition. The students who make it to nationals take a trip to Atlanta, Georgia where the national competition is held.
