HHS responds to host fish bowl on topic of immigration

Nov 8, 2018

HHS Responds is a club that believes students have the right to a safe space that allows them to share their opinions.

On Thursday, Nov. 8, HHS Responds will continue their goal of open discussion in the form of an Immigration Fishbowl. This event is designed to invite all students of HHS to an open-ended discussion regarding immigration. Students of all political ideologies and beliefs are invited to attend.

“The main goal is just to get students to talk and for them to feel safe about doing so,” said Debra Chepkemoi, senior. “We don’t want people to get very defensive because that would not be productive discussion.”

Facilitators will be providing questions to lead discussion, but the intention is let the people speak their mind.

The event begins just after school at 3 in W116 and pizza along with sambusa will be provided at no cost to all students that attend the event.

“My hope at the end is for people to inspire others or even get a new side of the story that either they hadn’t experienced or thought about before,” Chepkemoi said.
