David’s picks

Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player in the history of the game and there really should be no doubt. Until Lebron James wins seven championships and passes Michael Jordan for the number of rings, MJ is the best.

It’s not even the fact that he won six rings, it’s the fact that anytime he has been to the finals, he’s won. He’s six for six and Lebron is three for eight and if the Warriors beat the Cavs again this year, which should happen, he will be three for nine.

Lebron James, in two weeks, will have the same amount of finals losses as Michael Jordan will have finals wins. Let that sink in for a bit. Lebron will have six finals losses and MJ has won that same amount of rings.

Now people will say, rings aren’t the only things you can look at because if you think rings are the only things that matter, Bill Russell is the G.O.A.T. Like I said before though, MJ isn’t the best because of the rings he’s won, it’s because the rings he’s lost, which is zero.

But if I have to, I will stray away from winning championships and prove that MJ is better than Lebron for more than one reason.

How about the fact that Michael Jordan has won five MVPs and Lebron James has only one four. This year, the MVP should be James Harden which means Lebron will stay at four after this year.

Also, with all the young talent coming up like Ben Simmons, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum, Karl-Anthony Towns, and even Kristaps Porzingis. As well as all the elite talent already like James Harden, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and Kyrie Irving. I could see all of those guys winning an MVP before Lebron wins another.

Another thing I want you to keep in mind is that MJ never left to another team to win championships. Lebron James went to Miami to team up with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh to try and win some championships. Obviously, they did.

Lebron then comes back to Cleveland only because they have an elite point guard in Kyrie Irving and the potential to trade number one overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins and also the 2013 number one overall pick Anthony Bennett to get another all-star. The Cavs did just that when they traded for All-Star Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

I believe that if Irving wasn’t on the Cavs then Lebron wouldn’t have decided to return to Cleveland in the first place. Lebron went to the Heat to win championships and then returned to the Cavs to win more championships. MJ stayed with the Bulls his entire career and still won six rings, more than Lebron did on two super teams.

This also ties into this year as there is much speculation that Lebron will leave Cleveland again to go to another super team. The 76ers, Rockets, Lakers, Knicks, T-Wolves, and the Pittsburgh Steelers for some reason are all teams trying to get Lebron.

Right now the Cavs suck, plain and simple. Lebron is carrying this team and deserves all of that credit. But they are about to go up against the greatest team the NBA has ever seen. If they lose, he will use this a reason to leave.

LeBron James may have carried an awful team to the NBA Championship. But please remember that this year, the East is sooo weak, it’s insane. Back then, the eastern conference was much much stronger. People are giving LeBron too much credit for taking down weak teams.

The toughest team they played in this playoffs was the Indiana Pacers. The Raptors were terrible all four games and the Celtics are a team that can only win at home. All the Cavs had to do was win one game in Boston and they are in the NBA Championship.

If the Pacers beat the Cavs, they would’ve gone to the finals, easily. They were the only team to play the Cavs tough for seven whole games. The Warriors have had a much harder task because they had to defeat a red-hot Pelicans team and the number one seed in the West in Houston.

Another thing that nobody gives MJ credit for is that he won three straight rings and then retired to baseball for two years, sucked at it, came back to basketball and won three straight more rings.

With all of this in mind and the fact that Lebron has lost FIVE times in the NBA Finals, you have the give the G.O.A.T award to Michael Jordan. Nuff said.
