On Friday, Jan., 12, AP European History students hosted the annual Renaissance Festival in the old gym at HHS.

The renaissance, French for “rebirth”, was an era in Europe between the 14th and 17th century that saw major advancements in all areas of society.

The teachers organize their students into groups of four to five and assign each group a group of different personas. Then, they get to create a booth, inform the visitors about the personas in their booths, and offer games.

Nafi Soumare, junior, and her group took on the personas of the Medici, an influential Italian family.

“We are also going to wear costumes and offer cream puffs, since it was the Medici who introduced them to France,” Soumare said.

The students are required to participate in the festival and are going to be graded on a written component and the experience.

“We want to create an environment for students, where they can have fun and learn about the events of the renaissance, such as the reformation,” said Ms. Sateren Burow, Social Studies.

It is her ninth year organizing the festival, which resembles the much bigger Minnesota Renaissance Festival, along with Mr. Rexroth, Social Studies.
