Events in Mall lead to administrative action

Oct 12, 2017

On Oct. 12, for the second day in a row, students threw recycling bins over the railing into the HHS Mall, in the presence of passerbys.

The incident occurred during passing time between first block and TASC. According to an HHS-wide Snapchat story, the student who committed the action stated that they did not intend to hurt anyone or promote any damage, but rather acted purely for entertainment purposes.

Although no students were hurt during the event, Doug Bullinger, principal, stated in an announcement over loudspeakers that the students who threw the bins were receiving appropriate consequences, and that such actions are not acceptable at HHS.

“When students consistently demonstrate that they can get to class without issue, we’ll open it back to seven minutes. This includes, but is not limited to, not tossing anything over the balcony and no mosh-pitting in the bathrooms,” Bullinger said.

Along with passing time being changed from five to seven minutes, all of the bathrooms, with the exception of the South Wing bathrooms, were locked.

“I’m going to trust that it won’t happen again. I expect better. If it does, we’ll evaluate our options,” Bullinger said.

According to the student’s post on the HHS-wide Snapchat story, he was charged with disorderly conduct and was immediately escorted out of the building.
