Perfection. Achieved.After a trio of runner-up finishes, the Hopkins Royals finally break through the glass ceiling and capture the Class 4A state title with a dominant 74-45 victory over the two-seeded Stillwater Ponies.
Just when you thought Hopkins girls basketball team couldn’t get more dominant, the Royals put on a clinic against the fourth-seeded Centennial Cougars and advance to their fifth straight Class 4A state tournament final by a score of 75-51.
The Royals have broken the streak. The past two seasons, the Wayzata Trojans have defeated Hopkins in the Class 4A, Section 6 final at Osseo High School.
The Hopkins Royals took care of business in their state tournament quarterfinal game against the Lakeville North Panthers with a strong 68-46 victory at the historic Williams Arena.
The Class 4A girls state basketball tournament will kick off tomorrow with a quarterfinal matchup between the top-ranked Hopkins Royals and the Lakeville North Panthers.
Hopkins plays their first section playoff game tonight, against the Saint Louis Park Orioles. It is the section semifinal, and the Royals had a by for the first game. After finishing the regular season with an away loss to Eden Prairie, the Royals look to learn from that loss and defeat the Orioles.

In his third season with the Minnesota Gopher, Hopkins High School Alum, Amir Coffey, is leading the Gophers through the regular season and in the late push for the NCAA tournament.
