Goalie, Annika Carlandar, senior, makes a save against Maple Grove.

About four months and 27 games later, the girls hockey team wrapped up their 2016-17 season on Wed., Feb. 15.

The Royals produced a 15-10 regular season record and a 1-1 sections playoffs record. After their 7-2 win against North Metro, the Royals were hoping for a strong game on Wednesday.

The Royals entered the game with serious determination, but after Cretin-Derham Hall scored two in the first period, they started to lose energy.

“We started off focused, we were ready to go but we had a couple slip-ups and that started to bring us down,” said Greta Bragg, senior.

During the second period, Cretin-Derham Hall scored three more, but Kylie Hanley, junior, answered back with a goal. Unfortunately, the Royals were unable to keep the momentum and lost 1-7.

“I think we left everything out on the ice, but it just didn’t go our way. It was super emotional, but we worked really hard,” Bragg said.

Even though Bragg, along with the other seniors, won’t be around next season, they have high hopes for the team.

“Other than beating Edina, I hope [the team] can at least win two sections games because we usually lose the first game so I hope they can continue what we started this year,” Bragg said.
