Amanda Olson, junior, scores for Hopkins against North Metro. The Royals won 7-2.

On Sat., Feb. 11 the Royals girls hockey team played in their first section game against the North Metro Stars. The Royals beat the Stars 7-2 with goals from Stella Haberman, Kate Glover, Greta Bragg, seniors, and Kylie Hanley, Annika Patterson Amanda Olson, juniors.

After getting the first section game nerves out, the Royals are ready to focus and take sections one game at a time.

Next, the Royals play the Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders on Wed., Feb. 15.

Haberman, captain, anticipates an interesting game because Cretin-Derham Hall is the second seed, while Hopkins is the third.

“We’re hoping build momentum right away and capitalize on all opportunities,” Haberman said.

Sections are single elimination, which means that one loss could end the Royals’ season. As a senior, Haberman feels the pressure that comes with the postseason.

“It makes me want to win more, I’m not ready to be done,” Haberman said. “It definitely motivates us more though, everything is on the line.”

The Royals will face the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. at the Parade Ice Garden.
