Simon Wright, senior, shoots a three pointer in the state quarterfinal game.

Simon Wright, senior, captain, is a guard for the Royals Basketball team. On Wed. Nov. 9, Wright participated in National Signing Day, where he officially signed his commitment letter to Elon University in North Carolina to play Division 1 basketball.

“I’m really excited to start fresh with a new team, in a new state, and start playing with my new teammates,” Wright said.

The Royals graduated 6 varsity seniors last year, including University of Minnesota’s Amir Coffey, HHS alumni, who was awarded the prestigious Mr. Basketball Award. The Royals also won the 4A state championship, so Wright is looking to accomplish the program’s tenth state title.

“We had a great season last year, so the team is really looking to build on what we accomplished last season and return to the State Tournament,” Wright said.

Wright has been working very hard during the offseason, but despite his Division 1 commitment, he still feels there is work to be done his year, and has goals for the season he wants to achieve.

“I want to be nominated to the All-State Team and get another State Title for HHS,” Wright said.
