This past season, the varsity girls gymnastics team has practiced their tumbling, vaulting, and jumping in order to prepare for their most important meet yet – sections.

On Saturday Feb. 13, at noon, the gymnastics team will be attending the 6AA section meet at Eden Prairie High School.

There will be eight teams attending the meet: Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Minneapolis South, Minneapolis Southwest, Minnetonka, St. Louis Park, and Washburn.

This year, the team has been preparing for sections by practicing every day after school. The Royals have practiced all four events: Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise. With the amount of practice the team has put in for sections, they are excited to show off what they’ve worked so hard for.

“I am excited for sections because I get to compete my full [twisting layout] for the second time. It has been my goal since eighth grade,” said Katie Leeke, senior captain.

They will have their top five athletes competing, along with two alternates. The Royals have three all-around competitors: Leeke, Grace O’Neil, senior, and Brielle Richardson, junior.

They posted their high score of the season of 132.9 in their meet against St. Anthony Village High School on Jan. 29. The Royals hope to do just as well in sections, especially the seniors.

“I am excited to see our seniors compete and do well for their last time in their high school career,” said Sydney Schaefer, sophomore.
