Owen Hoeft, senior, is one of the fastest distance runners in Minnesota this year. Hoeft was ranked second individual in the state for cross country by several preseason rankings and is part of the boys team ranked 14 in the nation by DyeStat.com.

Hoeft started running in elementary school and loves running because of the challenge that faces him every time he goes out on a run.

“I also have been part of the running community in Minnesota for as long as I can remember,” Hoeft said.

Running has always been part of the Hoeft family. Owen’s dad, Carson, was an All-American for the University of Minnesota in cross country. Hoeft strives to better his father’s times when he races.

“It’s fun to chase the times that my dad ran back in the day.” Hoeft said.

Hoeft is followed by a great team. So far, the boys cross country team has won the St. Olaf Showcase meet, the Bauman-Rovn Invitational, and the Heartland Classic.

“Having a team to take some of the weight off my shoulders is great. Also, having the guys to train with makes running that much more enjoyable,” Hoeft said.

His favorite moments in his running career so far is qualifying for the state two-mile with Joe Klecker, class of 2015 graduate, and winning a state title in the 4×800 this last track season.
