After losing the first four games of the season, the Royals softball team turned the season around and has received the top seed in the section 6AAA tournament.

Winning five games in a row against Lake Conference opponents put the Royals right in contention for a conference title. With a win against Edina last Monday, the Lake Conference crown was theirs.

A regular-season game loss to Champlin Park snapped a four-game winning streak and completed a 9-9 season.

The Royals will be paying attention to the first sections game, as they will play the winner of eight seed Minneapolis Southwest and nine seed St. Louis Park.

The winner of the Orioles vs. Lakers matchup must play the Royals immediately following their 4 p.m. play-in game.

With a win on May 19, the Royals would play in the section semifinals on May 21 at 4 p.m. A possible state tournament berth would be on the line on May 26 in the section finals. All games will be played at Miller Park in Eden Prairie.

A team to watch out for is second seed Buffalo (12-5). Although their record may correlate to a good team, their conference isn’t the strongest.
