On Wednesday April 8, the boys tennis team fell in the season opener to Mahtomedi by a score of 3-4.

“We played a well. Mahtomedi really pushed us and made us better. It was good that we kept it close and made it fun and competitive, said Daniel Grayson, senior.

Due to weather and spring break, the Royals have only been able to practice outside five times this season, making it difficult to adapt to outside play.

“We haven’t had the most efficient practices so far, but once guys get more chemistry playing together outside, I think you’ll see big improvements from the team as a whole,” Grayson said.

In a Thursday scrimmage, the Royals swept Providence Academy 7-0.

Tomorrow the Royals will participate in theElk River Invitational, the team’s first tournament of the year. They will be accompanied by Elk River, Hibbing, and Grand Rapids in the tournament.

“It’s going to be some stiff competition at the tournament. The teams we play have some really good players, so this will be a great way to wake us up for a long season,” Grayson said.
