On Thurs. Jan 15, HHS Boys Wrestling went toe-to-toe with Edina. As a team, Hopkins finished with 46 points, and Edina finished 33.

“It was a great win for us, Edina has always been a difficult team to beat,” said Nathan Schmid, senior.

Schmid, weighing at 175 pounds, pinned his opponent for 4 seconds to win his match.

For the past two decades, Edina and Richfield had a combined wrestling program. This season, Edina has enough wrestlers to have their own team.

“It was different wrestling Edina. They were more aggressive and had more spirit,” said Malik Smith, senior.

Overall, the Royals were happy with the outcome of the game.

“It was back and forth. Both teams did a great job. The place was packed and the crowd was awesome for senior night. They had as many people there as we did. It was exciting for the sport of wrestling.” Schmid said.
