Ranked number one in the state and with a perfect 10-0 record, the Eden Prairie Eagles (winner of the last two section championships) came prepared to defend their home ice against the (7-4) Royals.

The Royals weren’t intimidated by the pedigree of EP.

“We were coming off a big win over Wayzata and we’ve been clicking a lot lately since we changed our lines. Everyone came out with a lot of energy and we never thought we couldnt beat them,” said Corbin Boyd, senior.

Five and a half minutes into the game, Boyd tallied her 27th point (second in the Lake Conference) with a goal.

Late in the first period, the Eagles tied it up with a goal from forward Charly Dahlquist, senior. This would end up being the last goal of the game.

In the second, third and overtime periods, Molly Dionne, senior goalie for the Royals held off the 27 shots by the Eagles to preserve the tie.

“I’m happy we played well but I think we could’ve won. We had a lot of opportunities to win the game so we need to work on finishing those opportunities.” Boyd said.

With the tie, the Royals now lead the Lake Conference with three points in two conference games played. On Dec. 18, the Royals will host Edina in their first home Lake Conference game.
