The boys hockey team won their home opener against Coon Rapids on Friday, Nov. 25 at the Hopkins Pavilion. With a stand full of fans, the Royals finished off the Cardinals by a final score of 8-3. Josh Laven, senior captain, led the team with a hat-trick.

“It felt good to perform in front of so many fans and give them something to cheer about,” Laven said.

Webb Bolstad, senior, scored two goals for the Royals in the third period.

“We’re super pumped to start the season off with a win. It helped having as big of a student section as we did. We’re excited for the rest of the season because we know we have the potential to do something great with HHS hockey,” Bolstad said.

This performance shows promise for a successful season.

“I think this season will require a lot more hard work, but we will have more success than we’ve had in the past,” Laven said.

During Thanksgiving break the Royals went 1-1 with a 7-2 win over Chisago Lakes and a 2-4 loss to Chanhassen. Up next, the Royals travel to Apple Valley to face on the Eagles who won their home opener 7-1 over Shakopee.
