Last night, HHS held the 15th annual Young People’s Concert, an event where the orchestra students perform a concert for young children and let them try out their instruments.

“[The Young People’s Concert] was started as an outreach for younger students and children to get more familiar with stringed instruments,” said Alison Swiggum, Music.

Students tried to make the children more comfortable and engaged by dressing up in pajamas and inviting a clown to make balloon swords and animals.

“This is a relaxed event, and we want to try and relate to the kids. The event is just laid back,” said Madie Buckner, junior.

This year, there was a surprisingly large turnout.

“Personally, this is my first year doing this event, and I’m glad that a lot of people showed up. I think the event is for a great cause, and it allows kids to get an early excitement about orchestra,” said John Hiller, junior.
